CFC Junior Rugby Club:
We are a community based, family friendly club where all are welcome! New to rugby or a seasoned player, we are the largest and friendliest club in town with a satisfaction rating averaging 98.2% based on our Junior Club Survey results (when compared to other Club experience). Be part of a progressive, fun and great club based in a thriving Central Christchurch community.
Winter Rugby
Our 2023 winter rugby registrations are open! Returning players should have received an invite to the email address previously used to register, with previous personal information pre-filled. However if you cannot locate this, information is no longer correct or if you are a new player this season, please register here.
MIXED GRADE TEAMS
We provide mixed Rugby opportunities for U6- teenage rugby grades. We are the largest rugby club in the South Island, offering a wide variety of teams and playing formats.
We offer tackle (contact rugby) from U8 grade through to teenage grades. All grades are subject to suitable coaches and available numbers. From U13+ grade, teams are not able to play as mixed teams, but we encourage high school grade players to come and be part of a fantastic club environment and to bring your mates along....we have a number of U15 teams set to visit later this from all over NZ and Australia and we would love to also field an U14/15 boys team to take part in these events as well as the usual Saturday morning rugby.
We offer non-contact rugby for U6-U13 Grades, for those not keen to start tackle rugby from U8 Grade. Tackle rugby teams are available from U8 Grade up.
We do cater for older 4 year old players, due to start school over the next few months, if they are keen - it's a great way to meet some potential school friends and other families! Effectively, if you as parents think your child is ready to come along and give rugby a try, you will be welcomed!
While we are the largest junior rugby club in the South Island, we retain our community focus and offer a great opportunity for our families to come together to meet new friends, which we hope they retain throughout their lives. We are committed to following and promoting the NZ Sport Balance is Better philosophy with a diverse community spanning over 50 schools across the region. Our PRIDE Core Values are central to everything we do.
We offer so much more than your Saturday morning game of rugby, with mid week team meals, Friday Nights Under Lights, school holiday activities, travelling tournament opportunities and other fun activities throughout the year.
U11-U13 & U17 - GIRLS ONLY RUGBY
For 2023, we will again be offering girls only tackle teams in the U11, U13 and U17 grades. We are wonderfully resourced with a first class coaching team, headed up by Jono & Vicki Campbell, both of whom were nominated for CRFU Coach of the Year awards in 2022. We have the largest female representation across the region and we concentrate on providing a fun, learning experience adapted to the different needs of all our girls.
We lead by example in the female rugby space, wih our Rugby Development Manager, being non other that the awesome Steph Te Ohaere-Fox. Steph is a club legend, who has played for CFC since 2004 and still plays today. Steph is an ex Black Fern, ex Captain of the Barbarians Internation team, the most capped Canterbury FPC player, part of the Canterbury Leadership team and a 2022 /23 Matatu player. In addition, Steph also coaches one of our junior teams and is a true champion of all things rugby - we are very blessed to have Steph leading our club!
Our championship winning senior women's team features numerous Black Fern and FPC players and our girls only teams work closely alongside our women's team. We are proud of the strong pathway we have established for our female players.
We will also be the host of the 2023 NZ Girls Junior Rugby Festival, which will take place on Fri 23rd - Sun 25th September. This tournament will play host to girls only teams from all around the country and internationally, with a waiting list to attend. This tournament is a CFC initiative, partnering with the Global Games and Ponsonby Rugby Club. Held for the first time in 2022 at Western Springs stadium to coincide with the Rugby World Cup, this event will be held bi-annually at Christchurch Park, with Ponsonby Rugby Club hosting on alternative years.
