We are a community based, family friendly club where all are welcome! New to rugby or a seasoned player, we are the largest and friendliest club in town with a satisfaction rating averaging 98.2% based on our Junior Club Survey results from the 2020 season (when compared to other Club experience). Be part of a progressive, fun and great club based in a thriving Central Christchurch community.
For 2022, we were delighted to offer girls only teams. Last year, we were wonderfully resourced and coaches include 2 x female ex-rugby international/Black Ferns and a previous NZU21 female rugby player as Assistant Coach. Steph Te Ohaere-Fox, ex Black Fern, International and Canterbury FPC player and long time CFC Club Member is our Women's Rugby Champion and is working with us to offer the best opportunities to our females.
Our girls teams are named the 'RUSCOES' after Melissa Ruscoe who is also an active CFC member and senior Coach, who captained the Black Ferns and has a distinguished career we are extremely proud to be associated with!
We were proud to organise and host the first ever Girls Only rugby tournament in October, which was a fantastic celebration of our Wahine Toa!
We are working hard to offer further opportunities and activities to help develop and support our girls in 2022 under the guidance and advice of CRFU, NZ Sport and our existing girls and their families. If you have any ideas or suggestions - please get in touch - we'd love to hear from you!
MIXED GRADE TEAMS
We provide Rugby opportunities for U6- teenage rugby grades.
We offer non-contact rugby for U6-U11 Grades, for those not keen to start tackle rugby from U8 Grade. Tackle rugby teams are available from U8 Grade up.
We do cater for older 4 year old players, due to start school over the next few months, if they are keen - it's a great way to meet some potential school friends and other families!
While we are the largest junior rugby club in the South Island, we retain our community focus and offer a great opportunity for our families to come together to meet new friends, which we hope they retain throughout their lives. We are committed to following and promoting the NZ Sport Balance is Better philosophy with a diverse community spanning over 50 schools across the region. Our PRIDE Core Values are central to everything we do.
Coaches, Managers & Committee Members Wanted:
We are run by a small Junior Committee of 5 current members and we'd love to have more of our families on board to support us. No experience needed, just a great attitude and willingness to show your children that team work happens at all levels in community sport!
