Robson Green was in NZ for the Extreme Fishing Show, filming for the series that will be aired in NZ in August this year.
Green has made a name for himself in such television programmes as Soldier Soldier, Wire in the Blood and most recently Being Human.
He has been a regular visitor to New Zealand in recent years to fish. His 10-day trip was his first to the South Island where he landed eel, blue cod and kahawai in Kaikoura, Blenheim and Nelson.
A huge part of the show is Robson heading out on his fishing trip with a mission in mind, this one being that he is planning on restoring some national pride by proving not all Englishmen are gutless prima donnas after a not so happy performance by England in the recent World Cup. They kept a “rugby theme” flowing throughout the filming, ending their NZ visit at CFC.
Robson and his crew drove back from Kaikoura on Sunday 15th January to film at the club. Robson donned the club strip and with a mix of CFC players was run through a series of physical drills and exercises – coach for the day Pierre Gargiulo, with varying success and displays of physical prowess. With a constant smile and an English quip ready he thoroughly enjoyed the exercise and was a true delight to all involved, and certainly felt he restored some English pride to the rugby fraternity.
After posing for some photos and meeting some keen watchers, he and his support crew partook of some great CFC hospitality, sponsors product Tui!! before heading away to resume his hectic schedule.
